Kitsilano & West End Schedules for Summer 2013 (Starting May 13, 2013)

By

Beginning May 13, 2013 we are slimming down our schedule for summer at Kits and the West End. We know that many of you like to hit the hot room a little less in the warmer months, so we’re spreading our classes out a bit. Best of all, if you’re a kits regular, the new schedule means that you’ll now have 30 minutes for Savasana in between classes! No more rushing out to make room for the next class.

  1. I simply could not leave your site prior to suggesting that I extremely enjoyed the usual information an individual provide to your guests? Is going to be again continuously in order to investigate cross-check new posts.

  2. Absolutely indited subject material, regards for information. “In the fight between you and the world, back the world.” by Frank Zappa.

So not happy with the new West End’s schedule. I was really loving the 8 a.m. class. The 10 a.m. class starts to cut too much into my weekend time. I have only a few classes left on my pass, not sure I will be renewing for the summer.

I’ve been enjoying the West End Bikram studio on a Groupon and was thinking of purchasing an unlimited membership. The manager who reduced the West End schedule, however, has made two errors in logic:

    1. one of the best things about Bikram is that it teaches discipline. It’s always been difficult for me to stick to a workout regimen, but taking Bikram classes is both inspiring me to stick with it and giving me more mental focus to do so. The problem with the new schedule of reduced classes, however, is that it challenges my newfound commitment. It is hard enough for me to retain the discipline, but for the yoga studio to make it harder to retain it by removing classes is inflammatory and counterproductive. Personally, I like the 7 pm weekend classes, and in the summer I am happy to spend a few hours outside and then take the class. I’m also sympathetic to the other posters who like to get their yoga done in the morning and then spend the rest of the day enjoying the summer weather. So the studio’s new schedule is impeding my progress and commitment. That does not inspire me to buy a membership.

    2. The top-down schedule policy was clearly done without consulting West End yogis. One of the central tenets of yoga is that that we all work together to improve our poses and gain positive energy and encouragement from each other. We want each other to be well–the connotation of “Namaste.” The studio’s reduction of classes impedes that process, and the method of imposing the paltry new schedule contradicts this fundamental principle of yoga.

It would certainly show greatness of mind if the manager who imposed the new schedule realized the error and fixed it. I do hope that will be the happy outcome.

    • Hi Dianska,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Much thought went into the changes at the studio, and we decided on the current schedule based on the attendance levels of the classes at the West End and Kitsilano. In order to work with the resources that we have available to us, we wanted to ensure that we would be servicing the busiest times of the day. We are greatly concerned about making sure each and every one of our thousands of students are happy, but it’s also of paramount importance to us to cut down on waste during the slow months and make sure we are running as efficient and green as possible too. Bikram Yoga Vancouver still offers 99% more classes than the studios found in any city for the same cost of membership (many studios only have 1 class a day on weekends, we will have 15 on weekend days between our 3 studios). We will continue to look at the attendance levels of the weekend classes at the West End and if it proves itself that more classes are needed we will surely re-look at the situation.

VERY disappointing to see the 8AM Saturday @ West End is off the schedule…the BEST way to start the day is yoga practice – my day doesn’t start @ 10AM! There’s a collective of regular, early-bird yogis in the West End that strongly agree & we consistently practice first thing in the morning…even on weekends!

    • Soriah says:

Totally agree! The morning classes have such a sense of community! Such a shame to take that away. 8am classes on the weekend are great for those of us that also have to work during the day. Really hope you guys re-look this!

Have noticed Julia hasn’t been teaching in a long while.
Really miss her. Hope all is ok.

  7. Vicki says:

REALLY unhappy to lose our 8 a.m.’s at the West End – wrong move on many counts. Surely in the summer, people want earlier classes so they can get out to enjoy the decent weather – not be inside till virtually noon to do their “morning” class.

I suggest everyone write in who agrees and see if we can get this decision reversed!

    • Suzy says:

Agreed! Interesting that class times are being cut, but we’re still seeing yoga deals on Groupon, etc. More people to wedge into those limited class times.

  8. Pamela says:

I agree….not happy at all with the schedule change for the West End….the morning classes in the West End are usually super busy!

  9. Soriah says:

Not so thrilled with the West End’s Schedule… I was hoping that you would add more classes for us, like 6:30am five days a week… and not take away the 8am on the weekends, which have been really busy lately. Super Bummed:(

    Wow awesome!!!!!
