BYV Consolidation

Dear Students of BYV,

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that we will be consolidating to one studio, and will be closing our Kitsilano and West End studios as of March 31, 2014.  The last day of classes at these studios will be Sunday March 30th.

This was a difficult decision, but was one that we had to make to ensure the sustainability of BYV going forward.  Our goal is to continue to provide a place for everyone in Greater Vancouver to practice Bikram Yoga, which will be at our Cambie studio, located at 555-West 12th at City Square Mall.

Our Cambie studio is a new, state of the art yoga facility that will be the model for future BYV studios.  We are excited to welcome each and every single one of you to come check out the Cambie studio if you haven’t already done so.  Your BYV memberships are valid at the Cambie studio, which also includes 2.5 hours of free underground parking.

We want to take this time to thank you for continuing to be a part of the BYV community, and we look forward to seeing you at our Cambie location.

    I would like to also find out if I could get a refund.

    I have two class passes in my account, one is in session and the other to start once the remaining classes are used.

    I used to go exclusively to the Kitsilano location as it was most convenient for me, now with the expiry dates set on the pass cards and the studios closing, I feel that I may not benefit from this.

    Also with the consolidation, the studio would be increasingly busy and I do not have the luxury of easily going to the cambie location by car or transit.

    I would like to have a refund of the pass not yet activated.

    Your decision is the perfect proof of your willingness to provide Bikram yoga in Vancouver in the best conditions. Business’ environment is always in the move and you guys had to adapt, well done! The Cambie studio is amazing, brand new with the latest amenities, everything there breaths an healthy touch and yes we’ll do the extra miles to the location in order to keep enjoying the classes.       I am appalled at Bikram Vancouver. They were selling long term passes to all 3 studios right up until the last minute. I was away and found out about the West End closure only 1 day prior thanks to no notification received from Bikram Vancouver. I showed up for practice and read the memo posted In the studio. As far as I’m concerned this is very poor business practice.This is not a company to be applauded and definitely not trusted.
      will Cambie remain open? think long and hard about purchasing any type of long term memberships with this company.

    Im sorryMargarita & Po but you r too hard. I stand with Danny & Lisa who have had to reduce their business from lack of demand from people like me & you. Bikram has always been about effort, it Takes a lot of time & a lot of physical effort. Make that effort! Go to yoga instead of the mealy-mouthed attitude of “give me my money back”. Be strong. Go to Bikram Yoga! At least one place is still open

    I am very sad to hear the news. I understand the decision had to be made in order to keep the business sustainable….However, it leaves us customer at a very disadvantaged position. I purchased a 15 class flex pass exclusively to go to the kits location. As a UBC student, I am incredibly busy…however I made the investment knowing that I would be able to get to class in around 20 minutes by bus. Even with the accesible translink service, a bikram yoga class including communitng ends up taking between 2.5-3hours. As you can see I’ve been unable to do more than one class per week on average because as a busy student it is very difficult to find a time that suits my schedule.

    Now that only the Cambie will be available, it will make it nearly impossible for me to use up the remaining of my classes (expired within 3 months ). I know the location seems near by car..but on the bus it is more than double the time (1 hour commute all together)….so that would just make it incredibly inconvenient. Also, the kits schedule has always worked with my schedule so much better…I’ve always wanted to give the Cambie location a try, but it was very difficult to find a time that fit.

    My plan now that school is cooling off for exams was to make use of the remaining classes before the expiry date at the kits location. With the announcement made, this changes things. It will not longer be feasible to make use of the classes for the reasons explained above.

    I feel that the BYV team already had some idea or speculation about the announcement, and it would have been very nice and transperent from your side, if you would have notified your customers prior the purchase of this pricey package.I bought it because i trully valued the kits location and its relatively close proximity to UBC.

    I would think that receivng a full refund of the remaining classes that I have would be the most appropiate. As a student, this was definitely an investment and I do see the value in it. However, at this point in time I cannot see much value in the Cambie location as it is way too far from campus given my time and schedule constraints.

    I LOVE Bikram Yoga ! I really hope that you guys can find a way to mitigate this problem. I truly value the service you provide and I do wish you understand my needs and situation.

      First, I am very sad and sorry to hear this news. Closing down any business must be difficult and I’m sure there were many factors that went into this.

      Much like Margarita, however, I’m now in a bad situation.

      I live a few minutes from the Alberni location and the only reason I bought the 3 month pass that I did, was because I knew I would use it if it was that close!

      I don’t have a car and really stick to the activities and offerings in the west end. It is incredibly unfortunate that this location is shutting down, however, I’m also a bit surprised and put off that I am only learning of this now, on this site.

      I don’t go to this site very often and was planning on stopping on the Alberni location tomorrow. What a rude awakening that would have been!!

      Can’t change the past now though, but I agree with Margarita that those who live close to Alberni and the Kits location should be refunded.

      I have no use for this pass anymore and already paid for the next couple of months into June.

      Can someone please contact us and inform us of steps into getting our refunds?

        Thank you for your comments. Our Support Team will be in touch with you both via email.

        Our decision to close Kits and West End was actually extremely difficult, but one we had to make very quickly in order to sustain BYV and maintain a space for our students to continue their practice. Whilst we realise there’s convenience in practicing closer to home, Cambie offers many other benefits including free parking, close proximity to transit, more space and gorgeous facilities. Plus, it’s under 5km from the West End and less than 4km from Kits.

          Thank you so much for you replies and doing your best to help us out. I really appreciate it!! I have been to the Cambie location on occasion and I know it’s a much nicer facility! Just realistically, I know myself and how I prioritize my time so I am doubtful I would make it there.

          I have so much gratitude and appreciation for the team at BYV and the Alberni location though, and will miss it very much!
