Q: Is it better to hold postures for the full time or go as deep as you can, even if you fall out?

Bikram Yoga Question

Isabel asks: In Standing Bow Pulling Pose and Standing Head to Knee Pose, is it better to hold the postures for the full amount of time without going too deep, or to go as deep as you can – even if you fall out?

BYV says

We think it’s better to hold the posture and build your strength. Also, work on improving your alignment while holding the posture. Gradually push yourself and go deeper – but not so much that you lose control in the posture. Remember: it’s edgework, and you have to experiment with it. Your ultimate goal is to be able to hold the posture as long as you want to … it’s an amazing feeling and accomplishment when you can do that!
